Asking for Time Off: Holiday Requests and Short-Notice Days
Requesting two weeks in July when July is a bad month, and asking for a single day off at short notice — with the one detail that makes your boss say yes.
Everyone needs this conversation, and almost everyone dreads it a little. You want time off, your employer wants the work covered, and you have to negotiate that in German.
There are two versions. The planned one — a proper holiday, months ahead. And the short-notice one, when something comes up next week and you have to ask anyway.
Both go better when you know the shape of them, and both contain one small move that changes the answer.
